I became a fan, if only there were more instantmiso’s works to read… Nowadays, the author had improved a lot, in ways that perfect so well the portrait, as we see in the “Siren’s Lament” during the story’ development. I really love the art, although being before “Siren’s Lament”, it has instantmiso’s drawing style. It reminded me of something else and then I realized it was instantmiso, from “Siren’s Lament”. When I saw “Where Tangents Meet” for the first time, I was curious about the art. It really immersed me on the story and made the romance so much more deliciously adorable. The colours used are simplistic, give off this vintage and cute vibe to the manhwa. The characters have a really beautiful touch that looks they are float around panels. The visuals of this manhwa were cute, smooth and delicate. Fun Fact: There is a reference of the couple on the webtoon “Siren’s Lament”. Throughout the story, the reader continues to meet characters who demonstrate bravery and courage. Rosen suspects that his family will be “relocated,” The Johansen’s quickly receive Ellen as one of their own. As the antisemitism of World War II spreads through Europe, the Rosen family is targeted by the Nazi’s. The mothers are companions and often drink afternoon tea together, the families live in the same apartment building and ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen and 10-year-old Ellen Rosen are best friends and classmates. The two families share many similarities. In Number the Stars we travel in time to 1943, Denmark, where we meet the Johansen family and the Rosen family. Emma and I don’t always agree on the same books, but we both found ourselves looking forward to our evening ritual of reading this story to each other. I was overjoyed when my 11-year-old daughter, Emma, was assigned to read Number the Stars with her 5th grade class. Lowry has a gift for writing stories that are both profound and approachable for her audience. If you haven’t read The Giver, I suggest that you add the title to your summer reading list. Surprisingly, I only discovered her writing as an almost 40 year old. Lois Lowry is one of my favorite authors in the genre of young adult literature. He received a degree in French in 1950 and began to consider a career as a writer. In particular he admired Albert Camus and Jean-Paul Sartre, whose writings corresponded with his own ideas about conformity and the will of the individual. World War II ended shortly after his training began so Fowles never came near combat, and by 1947 he had decided that the military life was not for him.įowles then spent four years at Oxford, where he discovered the writings of the French existentialists. After briefly attending the University of Edinburgh, Fowles began compulsory military service in 1945 with training at Dartmoor, where he spent the next two years. Of his childhood, Fowles said "I have tried to escape ever since."įowles attended Bedford School, a large boarding school designed to prepare boys for university, from ages 13 to 18. He recalled the English suburban culture of the 1930s as oppressively conformist and his family life as intensely conventional. John Robert Fowles was born in Leigh-on-Sea, a small town in Essex. |
